US citizens must obtain a visa before traveling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. WARNING: The U.S. State Department has issued a Level 3 "Reconsider Travel" advisory (Level 4 for eastern regions) due to crime, civil unrest, and armed conflict. Eastern DRC is home to mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park.
