Current Travel Situation
Spain to Taiwan: What You Need to Know
Taiwan (officially the Republic of China) has a complicated international status but is a de facto independent democracy with its own government, currency, and armed forces. Spain does not have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan but maintains trade and cultural offices.
How to Get There
Direct flights from Madrid (China Airlines via Doha, EVA Air via Bangkok) reach Taipei Taoyuan International Airport. Taiwan is an excellent base for exploring East Asia - Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong are within 2-3 hours by air.
Money & Banking
Taiwan uses the New Taiwan dollar (TWD). Cards accepted at hotels, malls, and chain restaurants. Cash preferred for night markets, local restaurants, and traditional shops. EasyCard (stored value card) covers metro, bus, YouBike, and convenience stores.
Practical Tips
Taipei (Taipei 101 skyscraper, National Palace Museum, night markets), Jiufen (atmospheric mountain village), Sun Moon Lake, Taroko Gorge National Park, and the southern beach resort of Kenting are top destinations. Taiwan high-speed rail (HSR) connects the west coast.
