Poland to United Arab Emirates: What You Need to Know

The UAE is a major transit hub and destination for Polish travelers. Dubai is the primary draw: the Burj Khalifa (world's tallest building), Dubai Mall, Palm Jumeirah, the historic Al Fahidi district, desert safaris, and the extraordinary beaches of the JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence). Abu Dhabi offers the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (one of the world's most beautiful mosques), the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Formula 1 Grand Prix experiences. Dubai is also the world's busiest international airport (DXB), making it a natural transit point for flights to Southeast Asia, Africa, and Australia. The UAE is a Gulf business hub with growing Polish commercial presence. Note that alcohol is available in licensed hotels and bars but not in public spaces. Dress modestly outside resorts.

How to Get There

The UAE is the premier transit and stopover hub for long-haul flights from Poland to Southeast Asia, East Africa, and Australia. A 24-48 hour Dubai stopover adds minimal cost when routed via Emirates. Oman (Muscat) is a 1h flight or 4h drive from Dubai and grants Polish citizens visa-free access. Qatar (Doha) is 1h15m by air. Saudi Arabia requires separate visa arrangements for Polish citizens.

Money & Banking

The UAE uses the UAE dirham (AED). The UAE ranges from budget (shawarma from a street shop AED 8-15, metro ride AED 3-9) to ultra-luxury (Burj Al Arab meals from AED 500+). Mid-range hotel restaurants cost AED 60-120 per person. Alcohol in licensed venues costs AED 30-60 per drink. Cards are universally accepted; the UAE is largely cashless. Tipping 10% is customary in restaurants. Duty-free at Dubai Airport is world-class, particularly for gold, electronics, and perfumes.

Practical Tips

Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Abu Dhabi (AUH) are served by Emirates, flydubai, Air Arabia, and Etihad from Warsaw (5h30m direct on Emirates and LOT Polish Airlines code-share), Krakow, and Wroclaw. The Dubai Metro (Red and Green lines) connects the airport to downtown, Marina, and JBR. Taxis (metered, generally honest) and Careem (ride-hail) are widely used. Abu Dhabi is 1.5 hours from Dubai by bus or car. Inter-emirate buses serve Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Polish citizens need a visa for the UAE?

No. Polish passport holders receive a 30-day visa-free entry stamp on arrival at UAE airports.

Can I extend my UAE visit beyond 30 days?

Yes. The visa can be extended for an additional 30 days by applying online via the UAE Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP). You can also exit and re-enter to reset the 30-day period.

Is Dubai suitable for family travel?

Yes. Dubai offers extensive family-friendly attractions: Dubai Parks and Resorts (Legoland Dubai, Motiongate, Bollywood Parks), Wild Wadi and Atlantis Aquaventure waterparks, the Dubai Mall (with indoor ski slope Ski Dubai and Dubai Aquarium), Desert Safari with dune buggy rides, and the Dubai Frame (picture frame-shaped building with panoramic views). The beach areas (Jumeirah, JBR Walk) are child-friendly. Alcohol is confined to licensed venues so the public environment is family-appropriate.

Is Dubai expensive for Polish tourists?

Dubai is mid-to-high range. Budget accommodation starts from EUR 50-80, midrange hotels EUR 100-200. Dining ranges from cheap shawarmas (EUR 2-5) to fine dining. Public transport (Metro) is affordable.

What is the best way to see the Burj Khalifa?

The Burj Khalifa (828m, world's tallest building) has observation decks on floors 124 and 148. Tickets for the At the Top observation deck (floor 124) cost AED 149-169 (about PLN 175-200); the SKY deck (floor 148) costs AED 369-399. Book in advance at burjkhalifa.ae; sunset slots are most popular and sell out quickly. The building also has the world's highest restaurant (At.mosphere on floor 122) and highest nightclub (Level 154). The Dubai Fountain below performs free shows every 30 minutes in the evening.

What should Polish tourists know about UAE laws?

The UAE has strict laws. Public intoxication, displays of affection in public, criticism of the government, and possession of certain medications require attention. During Ramadan, eating and drinking in public during daylight hours is restricted.

Is alcohol available in Dubai?

Alcohol is available in the UAE but only in licensed venues: hotel bars and restaurants, nightclubs, and specially licensed establishments. It is not sold in general supermarkets or restaurants without a license. Drinking in public is illegal. Prices are high: a drink in a hotel bar costs AED 45-80 (PLN 55-95). Non-alcoholic beverages (excellent fresh juices, Arabic coffee, mint lemonade) are widely available and much cheaper.

What currency is used in the UAE?

The UAE uses the UAE Dirham (AED), pegged to the USD at approximately 3.67 AED per USD. Cards are accepted everywhere. ATMs are plentiful.

What is the traditional side of the UAE beyond the skyscrapers?

The Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood (Bastakia) in Dubai preserves wind-tower houses and merchant villas from the 18th-19th centuries. The Dubai Museum (inside Al Fahidi Fort) tells the story of the fishing and pearl-diving village Dubai once was. The Abra (traditional wooden ferry) crossing of Dubai Creek costs AED 1 and connects the Deira Gold Souk and Spice Souk to Bur Dubai. Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (free entry) and the Louvre Abu Dhabi present Arabian cultural heritage at the highest level.

Can I visit Abu Dhabi from Dubai?

Yes. Abu Dhabi is about 1.5 hours from Dubai by taxi or bus. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Formula 1 Yas Marina Circuit are top attractions.

Is Dubai a good transit stop for long-haul flights?

Excellent. Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the world's busiest by international passenger traffic. Emirates Airways, the national carrier, offers connections from Warsaw (5h30m direct to Dubai) onward to Southeast Asia (Singapore 7h, Bangkok 6h, Kuala Lumpur 7h), East Africa (Nairobi 4.5h), South Asia (Mumbai 3h, Delhi 3.5h), and Australia (Sydney 13h). A long transit (8-24h) allows a Dubai city visit; Emirates offers complimentary hotel stays for long transits on certain fare classes.

Is Dubai good for Polish tourists in summer?

Summer in Dubai (June-September) is extremely hot (40-48C). Most activities are indoors (malls, water parks). Prices drop significantly and hotels offer good deals. Winter (November-April) is ideal with temperatures of 20-30C.
