Ireland Visa RequirementsFor Micronesia passport holders

FSM citizens require an Irish Short Stay (C) visa to enter Ireland despite having Schengen visa-free access. Ireland is not a Schengen member and operates its own immigration system. A Schengen entry does not grant access to Ireland.

Current Travel Situation

Micronesia to Ireland: What You Need to Know

Ireland is an EU member but is not part of the Schengen Agreement. While FSM citizens can travel visa-free throughout the Schengen area, they still require a separate Irish visa for any visit to Ireland. The two systems are completely separate.

How to Get There

Ireland is accessible via connecting flights from major European hubs (London, Amsterdam, Paris) which are all Schengen members. Note that the UK is also not Schengen, so UK transit requires checking UK transit visa requirements.

Money & Banking

Ireland uses the Euro (EUR). ATMs are widely available. Credit and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere. Some rural pubs and shops may prefer cash.

Practical Tips

1. Despite visa-free Schengen access, FSM citizens still need a separate Irish visa.
2. Apply at least 8 weeks before travel as Irish visa processing can take 6-8 weeks.
3. If you hold a valid UK visa, you may qualify for the British-Irish Visa Scheme; check current eligibility.
4. Dublin, Galway, and Cork are key destinations with excellent transport links.
5. Ireland is English-speaking, making communication easy for Pacific Island travelers.
