Current Travel Situation

Kenya to Spain: What You Need to Know

Spain is a Schengen member, so a Spanish Schengen visa grants access to all 27 Schengen countries. No bilateral visa-free arrangement exists for Kenyan passport holders. The Schengen fee was standardised at €90 in June 2024 (up from €80). Spain is one of Europe's most visited countries, attracting Kenyan travelers for tourism, business, and family visits. Biometric data collection is required at VFS. The EES (Entry/Exit System) biometric border registration for non-EU visitors launched in October 2025.

How to Get There

Kenya Airways operates from Nairobi (NBO) to London Heathrow (LHR) with connections to Madrid (MAD) or Barcelona (BCN) via Iberia or British Airways. Fly via Amsterdam (AMS) with KLM or Paris (CDG) with Air France for alternative connections. Ethiopian Airlines connects via Addis Ababa (ADD) to European hubs. Kenya Airways also operates a direct NBO-MAD service on some schedules. Journey time to Madrid is typically 12 to 16 hours with one stop.

Money & Banking

Spain uses the euro (EUR). Visa and Mastercard are universally accepted. Spain is one of western Europe's more affordable destinations: budget meals from €8 to €12, mid-range restaurants €15 to €25. Tipping 5 to 10 percent is appreciated but not mandatory. Budget accommodation from €20 in hostels, mid-range hotels from €60. ATMs are widely available throughout the country. Notify your bank before travel.
