Jordan is not a participant in the US Visa Waiver Program, and all Jordanian passport holders must apply for a B1/B2 visa before traveling to the United States. The US Embassy in Amman processes these applications. The US-Jordan relationship is close and longstanding, with Jordan being a major US partner in the region, but this does not affect individual visa requirements.

Interview appointment wait times at the US Embassy Amman are typically 180 to 300 days. Plan your application at least 9 to 12 months before intended travel.

Jordanian applicants are assessed on standard B1/B2 criteria: non-immigrant intent, financial sufficiency, and purpose of travel. Jordan has a significant diaspora in the US, particularly in the Detroit and Michigan area. This means consular officers are aware of diaspora connections and will look carefully at ties to Jordan: employment, property, family members who remain in the country.

Note: The US Embassy in Amman also serves Palestinian Authority passport holders from the West Bank who choose to apply there rather than at the US Embassy in Jerusalem. This contributes to high application volumes at Amman.

Royal Jordanian Airlines operates direct flights from Amman to the United States, providing a convenient connection for Jordanian travelers.

Royal Jordanian Airlines operates nonstop flights from Amman Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) to New York JFK, Chicago O'Hare, Detroit, and Miami. This is the most direct connection for Jordanian travelers to the US. Turkish Airlines connects via Istanbul (IST) to multiple US cities including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami. Emirates via Dubai (DXB) and Qatar Airways via Doha (DOH) are additional Gulf hub options. Lufthansa, Air France, and British Airways offer connections via European hubs.

The United States uses the US Dollar (USD). Jordanian bank cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted at US merchants, hotels, and ATMs. Notify your bank before departure to avoid international transaction blocks.

The US is significantly more expensive than Jordan. Budget $150 to $300 per day for mid-range city travel. New York and San Francisco are among the most expensive destinations.

Tipping is expected and effectively mandatory in US restaurants. The standard is 18% to 20% of the bill. Hotel staff, taxi drivers, and tour guides also expect tips.

ATMs are widely available across the US. Fees of $3 to $5 per withdrawal from out-of-network machines are common. Credit cards are accepted at virtually all merchants.

Apply very early. Amman wait times of 180 to 300 days mean starting 9 to 12 months in advance is essential.

Demonstrate ties to Jordan. Bring employment contracts, payslips, property documents, or business registration showing strong reasons to return to Jordan. Family members remaining in Jordan are a positive tie factor.
