Great news! Finland passport holders can enter United Kingdom without a visa for tourism or business purposes. You can stay up to 180 days.

Apply for the UK ETA before travel at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-eta. The fee is £16 per person, paid online. The ETA is linked to your passport and is valid for multiple visits over 2 years or until passport expiry. Apply at least several days before departure. The ETA is not a visa and does not guarantee entry; a UK Border Force officer makes the final admission decision.

Current Travel Situation

Finland to United Kingdom: What You Need to Know

The United Kingdom left the EU in January 2020 (Brexit), ending freedom of movement for EU citizens including Finns. Finnish passport holders can still visit the UK visa-free for up to 180 days but since January 8, 2025 must obtain a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travel. The ETA costs £16 and is linked to the passport. The UK remains a major destination for Finnish tourists, students, and business travelers. London is a key financial and cultural hub. Finnair operates direct Helsinki to London flights, and British Airways also serves the route.

How to Get There

Finnair, British Airways, Ryanair, and easyJet operate multiple daily Helsinki (HEL) to London Heathrow (LHR) and Gatwick (LGW) flights. Connections to Edinburgh, Manchester, and other UK cities are also available.

Money & Banking

UK uses Pound Sterling (GBP). Cards are universally accepted; the UK is largely cashless. London is expensive even by Finnish standards.

Practical Tips

The UK uses different plug sockets (Type G, three rectangular pins) from Finland's Type F/C; bring a plug adapter. Driving is on the left. The pound sterling (GBP) is used, not the Euro. London is expensive. National Health Service is not accessible to Finnish tourists; travel insurance with medical coverage is essential.
