Current Travel Situation
East Timor to Vietnam: What You Need to Know
Vietnam introduced a comprehensive e-visa system in 2023 covering all nationalities, including Timor-Leste. The e-visa (EV) is valid for stays of up to 90 days with single or multiple entry. Vietnam is a popular destination for its cuisine, historic sites, and diverse landscapes from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
How to Get There
Vietnam connects well with Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand on the same Southeast Asia trip. Visa on arrival or e-visa is available for all these countries. Budget airlines connect Vietnamese cities and Southeast Asian capitals cheaply.
Money & Banking
Vietnam uses the Vietnamese Dong (VND). ATMs are widely available. Cards are accepted in tourist establishments. Carry cash for local restaurants, markets, and transport. The VND has very low individual note values so you will handle large amounts of cash.
Practical Tips
Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hoi An are top destinations. Book the Ha Long Bay cruise and Sapa treks in advance. Street food is excellent and very affordable. Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Vietnamese Dong (VND) is the currency.
