Current Travel Situation

Algeria to Slovakia: What You Need to Know

Slovakia joined the EU and Schengen Area in 2004 and 2007. There is no bilateral visa exemption with Algeria. Bratislava, the capital, is a popular day-trip destination from Vienna. Slovakia also offers opportunities for skiing and nature tourism in the High Tatras.

How to Get There

Any valid Schengen visa grants entry to Slovakia. Slovakia adopted the Euro in 2009. Neighboring Hungary (non-Euro) and Czech Republic (non-Euro) require cash exchange if visiting on the same trip.

Money & Banking

Slovakia uses the Euro (EUR). ATMs are widely available. Cards broadly accepted in Bratislava and cities. Carry some cash for rural areas. Currency exchange at banks and exchange offices.

Practical Tips

Bratislava is just 60 km from Vienna, making it easily combined on a Central Europe trip. Slovakia is affordable and offers excellent mountain scenery. Apply 3 to 4 weeks before travel. English is spoken in Bratislava but less so in rural areas.
