Current Travel Situation
Algeria to Austria: What You Need to Know
Algeria is not part of any visa-liberalization agreement with the EU or Schengen Area. Algerian passport holders consistently require a Schengen visa for any European Schengen destination. The Schengen visa fee is 80 EUR for adults. Applications are submitted to the embassy of the country of primary destination or first entry.
How to Get There
If you hold a valid French residence permit or a valid Schengen visa issued by another member state, you may be exempt from applying again. Transit through non-Schengen airports does not require an airport transit visa for Algerians unless passing through listed transit countries.
Money & Banking
Austria uses the Euro (EUR). ATMs are abundant throughout the country. Cards are widely accepted, though some smaller establishments prefer cash. Inform your bank before travel. Currency exchange is available at banks and exchange offices.
Practical Tips
Book an appointment at the VAC well in advance as slots fill quickly. Apply at least 3 to 4 weeks before your travel date. Provide clear evidence of your financial means and strong ties to Algeria. Travel insurance must cover the entire Schengen period and all member states. Keep copies of all submitted documents.
