Afghanistan to Lithuania: What You Need to Know
Lithuania is a Schengen member: a Lithuanian Schengen visa grants access to all 27 Schengen countries. The Schengen fee is €90 since June 2024. Lithuania has very limited diplomatic presence in the region. Afghan nationals apply at the Finnish Embassy or another Schengen representative in Islamabad. How to Get There
No direct flights connect Afghan airports to Lithuania. Route via Warsaw (WAW) with LOT then onward to Vilnius (VNO), or via Frankfurt (FRA) or Amsterdam (AMS) with Ryanair connections to Vilnius. Via Istanbul (IST) with Turkish Airlines then Ryanair. From Islamabad, connect through Gulf hubs then European connections. Total journey time from Kabul is typically 16 to 22 hours.

Lithuania uses the euro (EUR). Visa and Mastercard are accepted widely. Lithuania is one of the more affordable eurozone destinations: Vilnius accommodation from €30 per night, meals from €7 to €14. Lithuania is significantly cheaper than Tallinn and comparable to Riga. ATMs are available in cities. Lithuania has a growing craft beer scene with reasonable pub prices.

Vilnius Old Town (UNESCO) is one of Europe's largest Baroque old town centres. Trakai Island Castle, 30 minutes from Vilnius, is Lithuania's most photogenic landmark. The Curonian Spit (UNESCO) is a narrow sand peninsula with tall dunes shared with Russia. The Hill of Crosses near Siauliai has over 100,000 crosses. Kaunas is Lithuania's second city with excellent interwar modernist architecture. Lithuania was the last European country to officially adopt Christianity (1387), and pre-Christian traditions remain in folklore.
